Steni Facade Panels Receive ICC-ES Evaluation for U.S. Building Code Compliance

Steni has reached an important milestone in the U.S. with the issuance of ICC-ES Evaluation Report ESR-5099 for Steni Colour, Steni Nature, and Steni Vision facade panels.

For architects, specifiers, contractors, and code officials, the evaluation makes it easier to specify and approve Steni for U.S. projects. It provides independent documentation of compliance with the 2018, 2021, and 2024 International Building Code (IBC) and International Residential Code (IRC), covering important areas of facade performance including weather, wind, and fire.

For Steni, ESR-5099 builds on decades of proven facade performance with the U.S.-specific code documentation project teams need to confidently bring Steni into more buildings across the country.

Easier to Specify Steni in the U.S.

ESR-5099 removes another barrier to specifying Steni in the U.S., giving project teams and code officials independent documentation they can reference during design, permitting, and approval.

It also brings recognized U.S. code documentation alongside the qualities that have long defined Steni: design flexibility, low maintenance, long-term durability, and a 60-year functional warranty.

Weather, Wind and Fire Performance

A facade has to perform long after the design decisions are made. ESR-5099 evaluates Steni panels against key requirements for weather, wind, and fire performance, providing project teams with documented results for some of the most important demands placed on an exterior wall system.

For fire performance, Steni panels meet IBC requirements for a Class A interior wall finish based on ASTM E84 testing. The report also includes an NFPA 285-compliant exterior wall assembly for Types I, II, III, and IV construction, with Steni Colour, Steni Nature, or Steni Vision as the exterior cladding.

Wind and weather performance are addressed as well, including allowable wind loads and the requirements for Steni's open-jointed rainscreen system. The evaluation documents how the panels, attachment system, and supporting structure work together to create an exterior cladding system designed for demanding conditions.

ESR-5099 also gives architects, contractors, and code officials clear guidance on installation, substructure requirements, and approved conditions of use, helping take some of the uncertainty out of specifying Steni for U.S. projects.

Florida Building Code and High-Velocity Hurricane Zones

Florida puts exterior building systems to the test, with demanding requirements designed for severe wind and wind-driven rain. ESR-5099 includes a separate supplement covering the 2023 and 2026 Florida Building Code for both building and residential applications.

Steni Colour, Steni Nature, and Steni Vision also comply with applicable High-Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ) provisions when installed according to the conditions in the report. This supports their use in some of the country's most demanding wind environments, including areas where facade systems must withstand the pressures and water intrusion associated with hurricane conditions.

Testing submitted as part of the Florida evaluation included TAS 202 and TAS 203, which evaluate air and water infiltration and structural performance under uniform static air pressure.
